Tony Moreno was born and raised in East Los Angeles and
has been a member of the Los Angeles Police department for over thirty years. He
has been a detective supervisor for almost twenty of those years.
During his career, he has worked numerous assignments relating to gangs including
Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH), homicide, narcotics, organized
crime, school car, gang car, and jail intelligence. Moreno has trained thousands of
law enforcement officers throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico on gangs.
He is a court-qualified gang expert and a licensed private investigator in the state
of California.
While assigned to LAPD Gang Detail from 1982 through 1986, he was nicknamed
"Pacman" by gang members because of the yellow Plymouth Fury police vehicle he drove. Due
to his reputation and work in the area of gangs, his nickname and a replica of his police vehicle were
used in the movie Colors.
Moreno has been a featured speaker at the California Gang Investigators Association
(CGIA) conference and other conferences for many years. In 2005 he published his
book Lessons from a Gang Cop. |

"Honestly, The Backup has provided me with the best training value I've ever encountered as a police administrator. There is nowhere else that I'm aware of where an officer can receive the diversity of training (all with POST Academy Level accreditation in Missouri) at the minimal financial outlay as at The Backup. With the ever-increasing strain on our training dollar, this value should not be ignored. I sincerely thank you."

"This training is very informative and is packed with a huge amount of useful information. I wouldn't change anything to the training disks."

"The interactive quizzes are a great tool for gauging how well we pay attention. The web links are awesome! This information was presented outstandingly. A very knowledgeable staff obviously put this together. All of this reinforced the fact that what I do already is correct. (Great confidence builder!) . There was much that I didn't know or completely understand prior to this course. I work in a job corps where we are constantly watching the gang activity of students. Though they have not yet consolidated their forces as they do on the streets, it gives me more things to watch for in all of the students. Also, I am anxious to try some of the prevention and intervention techniques described here. OUTSTANDING PRESENTATION! Keep up the good work!"
