Instructor Bio: Steve Taylor
Steve Taylor is field operations captain
for the Tracy Police Department in Tracy, California. He was a member
of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for twenty-three years prior
to accepting his position in Tracy in 1995.
In addition to his current position, Captain Taylor has been a patrol
officer and a sergeant where he worked patrol, vice, and narcotics. He
was a member of the LAPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team for eight
years in the role of sniper and crisis negotiator. During that time, he
was involved in SWAT team preparations for the 1984 Olympics.
Captain Taylor has been a trainer for numerous municipal and federal law
enforcement agencies, California's Peace Officer Standards and Training
(POST) Supervisor School and a SWAT team Commanders Course. His training
addresses such topics as crisis negotiations for the first responder,
search warrant service, command and control for police supervisors, rapid
deployment, and narcotics.
He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration and is currently
pursuing a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. He is a graduate
of the FBI National Academy and California's POST Command College. He
has been in law enforcement since 1972.
