This eight-hour course, taught by Captain Steve Taylor, is designed to expose field officers to contemporary issues, tactics, and procedures necessary to stabilize or resolve an incident through the crisis negotiations process. Topics include trends in hostage/barricade incidents, responsibilities for first responders, verbal tactics, suspect behavior, and SWAT expectations. It is designed for patrol officers who must manage the critical moments, sometimes hours, prior to the arrival of the SWAT team.
